Where to eat seafood in Gijón: current guide

Gijón lives facing the sea. That's reflected in the seafood on offer, but not all seafood is created equal. If you're looking for truly excellent seafood, pay attention to three things.
First, origin. Ask where the product comes from and what stage it's at. The Cantabrian Sea has clear seasons. A spider crab in winter is nothing like one that's out of season.
Second, rotation. Fresh seafood doesn't keep well for long periods. Look at the menu. If it's short and changes frequently, that's a good sign. If they have everything all year round, be suspicious.
Third, preparation. Seafood doesn't need excessive sauce or techniques to disguise it. Just the right amount of cooking, a touch of salt, and immediate service.
At Abarike Gastronomía, we work with this logic. Fresh produce of the day, a dynamic menu, and a gastronomic bar where you can see how the food you're about to eat is prepared. That makes all the difference.
If you come to Gijón looking for seafood, don't just look at the picture. Look for consistency between what they tell you and what arrives on your plate.
